A brief introduction to
Simone
Lee :
"My practice in counselling,
psychotherapy and related work in this field spans fifteen years.
I've enjoyed rigorous training with an emphasis on
existential
(long-term and time limited) approaches, and have
also trained in brief solution focused therapy,
groupwork,
supervision,
focusing, TIR, gestalt, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. I
continue to follow new ideas & thinking to challenge & enliven my
practice.
I also train students of
existential & integrative psychotherapy &
counselling in a number of settings to doctoral level &, both as a teacher &
clinical supervisor, I promote my belief in the value and potential benefits of ethical & humane
therapy.
I've worked in a variety of settings, with a rich diversity of people
from wide ranging backgrounds & I am committed to an inclusive,
multi-cultural & multi-ethnic attitude, valuing people from all
backgrounds, abilities, religions, faiths & sexual orientations.
While I aim always to maintain the highest professional & ethical
standards, my manner is ordinary & approachable & I avoid any
mystification of the work I do, encouraging a collaborative and open
dialogue."

the human condition
Being human brings its challenges, and
sometimes the challenges & difficulties we meet in life are hard to cope
with & to make sense of on our own.
When we look at examples of concerns
that bring people to therapy,
depression,
anxiety, stress, panic attacks, guilt
lack of confidence, low self esteem, shyness, making friends
loneliness & isolation, meaninglessness
overwhelmed, not coping, anger, anger management
physical, pain & illness related & age related, critical illness,
cancer
relationship, friendship, family issues, interfaith issues, divorce
trauma, abuse, rape, post traumatic stress, unwanted thoughts,
nightmares,
feeling stuck or trapped, repeating patterns
work related:
bullying, discrimination, harassment, redundancy
study related: exams, essay writing, coping under pressure, under
achieving, feeling stupid and worthless
loss, bereavement, separation & abandonment
addictions, phobias, OCD, bipolar
& psychiatric, irrational thoughts & fears
sexuality, sexual/gender identity, coming out, gender reassignment,
intersex work
infertility, miscarriage, SIDS, stillbirth, abortion,
parenthood,
pregnancy & pre-natal & post-natal
depression,
anxiety, stress, panic attacks, guilt
pet bereavement, crisis of faith, existential crisis, mid-life crisis
homesickness, alienation ....
there are, of course, many more.
we are reminded of the huge variety of
difficulties human beings can face in their lives.
The
situations we find ourselves in and our fears & worries can often
be difficult or simply unhelpful to share with people we already know.
The aim of
therapy at avenue practice is to provide a safe &
supportive space for us to look at & explore together the things
that matter to you. We shall also take stock & re-evaluate
how you live your life & how you engage with the world & the people
around you. This might throw light on new possibilities, which
may in turn encourage you to live more deeply & with a greater sense of
your own agency, even when circumstances do not favour you.
This
mode of practice is informed by
existential philosophy.
